What is the criteria for a successful LASIK surgery procedure?
Everyone wants to have a smooth and successful LASIK procedure. There is a list of criteria that each potential patient needs to meet in order to ensure the success of their LASIK procedure and it is incredibly important that your doctor accurately identify any potential characteristics in the patient that could possibly interfere with their visual outcome. Suitable candidates for the LASIK procedure should:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a stable prescription for at least the last year
- Have good ocular health, with no infection or injury within the past year
- Not have dry eye syndrome
- Not have an autoimmune disorder
- Have no corneal scarring
- Have suitable corneal thickness – If your corneas on on the thin side PRK may be an option for you.
Prospective patients must also consider the surgeon who will be performing the surgery and the laser vision correction center that will be caring for them pre and post operatively. When searching for your LASIK surgeon you will need to find a surgeon who possesses certain characteristics, such as experience, board certifications, a broad educational and training background, and a surgeon who has access to the best technology available.
